Displaze has just introduced a range of flat screen colour display modules suitable for integration into OEM systems or to be housed as desktop monitors. Known as the Z range, each module consists of three components, LCD panel, interface card and enclosure. The unit is designed to be a self contained flat panel module requiring an external DC power supply and standard video interface from a PC or PC-compatible embedded system. The range is designed around the NEC series of TFT Active Matrix LCD panels from Sunrise Electronics to provide a choice of 10, 12, 14, 15, 18 or 20inch nominal display sizes." For example, the 14inch model uses the NL10276AC28-01/02 panel. This 14.I inch colour TFT panel provides 1024x 768 resolution with full colour display capability of over 16 million simultaneous colours. The NL10276AC28-02 screen uses NEC's super fine TFT technology to give outstanding viewing angles of 80 degrees to the normal - ie 160 degrees all round. The built in backlight and inverter provide an evenly illuminated image with brightness adjustable by means of a potentiometer. Video input is via a standard high density 15-way D-type connector from the rear of the chassis. This accepts various image resolutions, ranging from VGA through to SXGA dependant upon the LCD panel being used, which are converted for display by the Displaze interface boards mounted inside the unit. The module chassis is fabricated from "ZINTEC" pre-plated 1.2mm (18 gauge) steel plate and is made in two halves. The front section carries the LCD and optionally touch sensors and has a joggled lip.. The screen mounts with a conductive filler strip between it and the inside of the front section and this together with secure fixing between the two halves acts to prevent radiated noise leaking from the unit. The rear section carries the I/0 connectors and overlaps the front section by approximately 10mm. A recessed area in the center of the lower part of the rear panel enables connection of all external cables without protruding from the envelope of the enclosure. This feature caters for situations where a double sided display unit is required thus keeping the maximum thickness of a back to back assembly to a minimum. In the case of the 14-inch units this is less than 86mm. Z modules are supplied with user controls enabling various parameters to be adjusted such as vertical/horizontal position, phase (via an on-screen display) and screen brightness. These controls mount on the rear of the unit as only occasional adjustment should be necessary. Power supplies of +12V, +5V and GND are required for the interface card and the LCD. These are provided via a panel-mounted locking 3-pin DIN style connector adjacent to the video-input connector and can generally be provided via a cable from the host system Z modules are suitable for use in a wide range of enviromnents and can be mounted directly using brackets, or housed in an external case to provide more cosmetic or stylistic appeal. Displaze Z modules conform to the EC directives relating to EMC and electrical safety. The relevant EC directives are 73/23/EEC (Low Voltage Directive) and 89/336/EEC (EMC Directive). <ends> Editors: for further information on Displaze or NEC products, please contact: Mark Cartlidge, Displaze Ltd, Unit 2, Station Approach, Wendover, HP22 6BN, ENGLAND Tel:+44 (0)1296-621141 Email: m.cartlidge@displaze.com http://www.displaze.com |
